Week 1: Story & Pre-Production
- Understanding Visual Storytelling: The fundamentals of cinematic storytelling and structure
- Script Development: Writing short-form scripts (basic screenplay format, three-act structure)
- Shot Composition & Storyboarding: Framing, angles, movement, and visual storytelling techniques
- Directing Actors: Blocking, emotional beats, and communication on set
- Pre-Production Basics: Scheduling, shot lists, and assembling a production plan
- Hands-on Exercise: Create a storyboard and shot list for a 1-2 minute short film
Week 2: Production & Cinematography
- Camera Operation: Understanding camera settings, lenses, and movement
- Lighting for Film: Key lighting setups for different moods and tones
- Sound Recording: Basics of capturing high-quality dialogue and ambient sound
- On-Set Workflow: Roles on a film set and how to run a smooth shoot
- Live Shooting: Students direct and shoot their short films using professional techniques
- Hands-on Exercise: Shoot raw footage for a short scene
Week 3: Editing & Post-Production
- Editing Basics: Timeline structure, pacing, and storytelling through cuts
- Color Correction & Sound Design: Enhancing visuals and audio for a professional finish
- Exporting & Deliverables: Preparing content for festivals, online platforms, or professional reels
- Final Screening & Feedback: Students showcase their work, receive critique, and discuss next steps in their filmmaking journey
- Hands-on Exercise: Complete a final edit of the short film for presentation
By the end of the course, students will have a finished short film, a deeper understanding of the filmmaking process, and the skills to create compelling visual stories.
